Avencia Sánchez-Mejías earns Jump4Women grant from Foment del Treball and U.S. Consulate in Barcelona

Dr. Avencia Sánchez-Mejías, CEO and co-founder of Integra Therapeutics, is one of the 20 women entrepreneurs who earned the Jump Startup for Women in Deeptech (Jump4Women) grant from Foment del Treball and the U.S. Consulate General in Barcelona.

Jump4Women is a newly created program to promote the growth of startups led by women in the health sector, which includes master classes, connection with the local ecosystem, a demoday, and a business mission in Boston.

The opening session was held at the Foment del Treball headquarters on March 22. At the event, the president of Foment del Treball, Josep Sánchez Llibre, highlighted the fact that this initiative “enables us to connect the leaders in a sector that is vital for the country’s economic competitiveness with the American continent.”

Next, the Consul General of the United States in Barcelona, Katie Stana, stated that “new business connections will be nurtured with the United States, and specifically with Boston, one of the most important innovation hubs in the world.”

Dr. Avencia Sánchez-Mejías‘s participation in this program is a huge opportunity for Integra Therapeutics, a spinoff from the Pompeu Fabra University: “Expanding the network of contacts with the biotech ecosystem in the United States is strategic for Integra due to the presence there of key stakeholders in the clinical development of advanced therapies.” Integra Therapeutics is currently in the regulatory preclinical phase of its revolutionary FiCAT gene-writing platform to make advanced therapies safer and more effective.

The program’s partners include ACCIÓ (Government of Catalonia), Level, RCD, and Tech Barcelona.
